Under federal mental health parity laws and state autism mandates in both New York and New Jersey, UnitedHealthcare is required to cover medically necessary ABA therapy. This means that if your child holds a documented ASD diagnosis and ABA therapy is recommended by a licensed provider, your plan cannot deny coverage solely on the basis of cost limits or visit caps.
At Achievement Behavior Services, every ABA program is designed and overseen by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA®). We work directly with UHC to handle prior authorization, treatment plan submissions, and ongoing utilization reviews, so your family focuses on your child, not the paperwork.
Before therapy begins, our BCBAs conduct a comprehensive functional behavior assessment (FBA) to identify your child's specific needs, strengths, and therapy goals. This assessment forms the clinical foundation of every treatment plan we submit to UnitedHealthcare for authorization.
Our Malverne, NY center provides a structured, distraction-reduced environment where children work one-on-one with a trained therapist under direct BCBA supervision. Center-based sessions are billed directly to UnitedHealthcare on your behalf.
For families in New York and New Jersey who prefer in-home services, our BCBAs design therapy programs that target real-life skills in the child's natural environment. UnitedHealthcare covers home-based ABA when medically necessary and prior-authorized.
UnitedHealthcare-covered parent training sessions are conducted by our BCBAs to equip caregivers with the strategies needed to reinforce therapy goals consistently at home, extending the impact of every clinical session.
Our BCBAs collect data every session and conduct formal reassessments to track progress against goals. Updated treatment plans are submitted to UnitedHealthcare at each authorization renewal to ensure continued coverage without gaps.
UnitedHealthcare requires a formal Autism Spectrum Disorder diagnosis from a licensed psychologist, developmental pediatrician, or psychiatrist before approving ABA therapy. If your child has already been evaluated, we can move forward immediately. If not, our intake team can point you toward qualified diagnosticians in New York and New Jersey.
Call or submit our intake form and our team will verify your UnitedHealthcare plan details directly with the insurer — including covered service types, prior authorization requirements, and any cost-sharing responsibilities. There is no charge for this step.
Our BCBAs prepare and submit a clinically detailed treatment plan to UnitedHealthcare on your behalf. This includes the functional behavior assessment, therapy goals, recommended service hours, and the treatment setting. We manage all follow-up until authorization is confirmed.
